The Lyricist LIVE’s outside street cypher was inspired by Kool Herc’s original idea of bringing Hip Hop into the city streets. This formula, eradicated gangs, stopped violence, and brought millions of people from every ethnic background together in the name of this thing we call Hip Hop. I wanted to take Herc’s basic model, and use that to also put a specific Era of Hip Hop on display as a live audio, and visual Art exhibit at Jacksonville’s Artwalk. That era was the “Golden age 90’s”. I wanted to display the art of freestyle rhyming and the cypher as a visual, and audio art exhibit that captured that 90’s feel and could be seen and heard right beside the paintings and craft-works put on display monthly at the Jacksonville Artwalk. The underlying purpose was to give this craft credibility as a true, and serious art form in Duval. After 4 1/2 years of Street corner Cyphers held outside with no violence, awards granted, history made, all while bringing hundreds of people downtown each month were doing exactly what Hip Hop is supposed to do. Unify people! That’s why I’m proud to announce that my Cypher next month will be held in Main St Park alongside other great works of art and sculptures on display for the “BLOCKTOBER” edition! The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville now sees The Lyricist Live Cypher as a true work of art! Come see it in it’s original form, in the newly refurbished park right on a city block downtown! October 1st! It’s The #BLOCKTOBER edition of a The Lyricist Live!
